Youth demand easy access to Singha Durbar

An application bearing signatures of 342 youths was registered at the National Information Commission today demanding that people be allowed easy access to Singha Durbar.

Youth from Lalitpur, Sindhupalchowk, Chitwan, Nawalparasi, Sindhuli, Dolakha, Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Terhathum, among other districts, had launched a campaign under the leadership of Swabhiman Manch Nepal and collected the signatures demanding easy access to Singha Durbar.

It is stated in the application that common people are denied entry to Singha Durbar and they had to plead government officials, politicians and sometimes brokers to get an entry to the administrative headquarters of the government.

The application also states that because the general public do not have easy access to Singha Durbar, they were deprived of their right to information.

The applicants have argued that even earthquake survivors were facing difficulties as the office of the National Reconstruction Authority, which is responsible for their rehabilitation and resettlement, is also located inside the Singha Durbar.

The applicants demanded that the NIC issue strict instructions to the concerned authorities to allow common people unrestricted access to offices located inside the Singha Durbar complex.

The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and the Parliament Secretariat have also been informed of the application filed at the NIC.
