Wives of a man beaten up‚ expelled by in-laws

Two women, wives of a local resident, were beaten black and blue and driven out of their house by their in-laws in Phatuha, Maheshpur VDC-2 of Rautahat district. One of them is seven months pregnant.

The victims have been identified as Sabila Khatun (22) and Rahana Khatun (20), wives of Shekh Abdul.

Their condition is said to be serious and are currently receiving treatment at the District Hospital in Gaur.

Besides inflicting regular mental torture on them, the duo’s mother-in-law Najara Khatun; sisters-in-law Nehara Khatun, Anjum Khatun and Seharul Khatun; and brother-in-law Shekh Samir physically assaulted them yesterday evening, according to the victims.

Their husband was also thrashed as he tried to protect them, and now has gone missing.

After being expelled from their house this morning, both of them resorted to the Women and Children’s Centre in the district to seek justice.

Abdul Shekh had married Sabila, who hails from Sitamarhi of the Indian state of Bihar, seven years ago.

Without divorcing Sabila, he tied the knot with Rahana last year for his first wife failed to conceive.

The in-laws allegedly boxed the heavily pregnant Rahana on her belly, and hit her with stick and serving spoon.

Rahana now fears of miscarriage.

The accused have been absconding after the incident.

DSP Bhim Prasad Dhakal of District Police Office, Rautahat said that security personnel have been deployed to get hold of the accused.
