Two rivers that used to flow to the east and west of Pokharigaun in Barpak VDC-1, the epicentre of the April 25 earthquake, have dried up after the earthquake.
Local Budhamaya Gurung said that water in Hasryangkhola and another coming from Samledada source dried up. “Both water sources of village have dried up. Now, the villagers go to Kulgaun of Saurapani VDC to fetch water,” Gurung said.
Samledada and Hasryangkhola are the two sources of water in Pokharigaun. “We visited both the sources planning to maintain the water supplies but we found the water sources completely dry,”
The entire houses in village have been destroyed while six persons died by the earthquake in Pokharigaun. “We lost our relatives, we lost our property. Even the water sources dried up,” she bemoaned.
Chief District Officer and coordinator of the district natural disaster rescue committee Uddhab Prasad Timalsena said that steps have been taken to address the drinking water problem in the Pokharigaun area.
