The United Nations Development Program on Sunday handed over 26 motorbikes to the Metropolitan Police Commissioner´s Office, Ranipokhari, for use by 26 community police units across the Valley.
According to MPCO´s spokesperson SSP Hemanta Bahadur Pal, about 400 community police personnel have been facing difficulties carrying out their duties due to lack of permanent offices and vehicles.
On the occasion of 59th Nepal Police Day, UNDP´s Armed Violence Reduction and Strengthening Community Security (AVRSCS) project handed over 26 motorcycles to AIG Bigyan Raj Sharma, chief of MPCO amidst a function in Kathmandu.
AIG Sharma said the support would help fight crimes. UNDP issuing a statement said the project plans to hand over additional 508 bicycles, 307 mobile phone sets, and other equipment to the district police offices in Tarai districts.
