Adoption of ‘Deeper Integration for Peace, Progress and Prosperity’ has been decided as the theme for the upcoming 18th SAARC Summit to be held in Kathmandu in November.
Foreign Minister Mahendra Bahadur Pandey confirmed today that the theme was decided with due suggestions from the Council of Ministers. Earlier, an advisory committee formed under former foreign minister Bhekh Bahadur Thapa had recommended various themes for the Summit.
Minister Pandey informed that he would be visiting SAARC member states shortly to extend formal invitations on behalf of Prime Minister Sushil Koirala.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is arranging Pandey’s visit to India, Maldives and Sri Lanka prior to his flight to US for UN General Assembly on September 19. Pandey will visit other SAARC member states after his return from the US.
On behalf of PM Koirala, Minister Pandey will to visit these countries on September 15-16, according to a source. Minister Pandey will personally hand over PM Koirala’s invitation letters to the head of states/governments of participating countries.
