Taxi workers call off strike in view of festivals

Taxi workers on Thursday called off their protest programmes in view of the upcoming feltivals like Dashain and Tihar.

The agitating taxi operators said the decision was made as the strike would the general public as the festivals like Dashain and Tihar have arrived around the corner.

Akhil Nepal Krantikari Yatayat Majdoor Sangh affiliated to Mohan Baidya-led Maoist and Nepal Loktantrik Yatayat Majdoor Sangathan have been staging protest for the past two days to press for their 17-point demand.

The protest brought the taxi operation in the Capital to a grinding halt.

Nepal Metre Taxi Sangh, Nepal Yatayat Majdoor Sangh, Akhil Nepal Majdoor Sangathan and Nepal Swatantra Yatayat Sangathan coordinated with agitating workers to call off the protest programmes.

Nepal Metre Taxi Sangh President Arjun Gautam informed that though the protest was halted now for Dashain, Tihar and Chhath festivals, the further protest programmes will be discussed after the festivals.
