National women weightlifting champion Tara Devi Pun of Nepal Police Club created improved her three national records in the Fourth Grandprix Classified National Weightlifting Championship in the women’s 75 kg and above weight categories on Sunday.
Lifting 68 kg in snatch and 94 kg in clean and jerk, Tara Devi lifted 162 kg in total to improve her previous record of 160 in total (67 in snatch and 93 in clean and jerk), which she had created during the 17th Asian Games in Incheon.
Manisha Ranabhat of Nepal Army (45 in snatch, 72 kg in clean and jerk and 97 kg in total), Devikumari Chaudhary of Police (55 kg in snatch, 66 kg in clean and jerk and 121 in total) Junumaya Chhantyal of Police (45 kg in snatch, 55 kg in clean and jerk and 100 kg in total), Manisha Shrestha (50 in snatch, 62 kg in clean and jerk and 112 in total), Shanti Chaudhary of Saptari (50 kg in snatch, 70 kg in clean and jerk and 120 kg in total) and Laxmi Ban (57 kg in snatch, 65 kg in clean and jerk and 122 kg in total) won gold in women’s 47 kg, 53 kg, 58 kg, 63kg, 69 kg and 75 kg respectively.
Meanwhile, Bikash Thapa of Police won gold in men’s 62 kg after lifting 105 kg in snatch, 120 kg in clean and jerk for 225 kg weight in total. Tularam Mahato (77 kg in snatch, 96 kg in clean and jerk and 173 kg in total) of Army won gold in men’s 73 kg.
Ramkumar Yadav won gold in junior boy’s 52 kg after lifting 121 in total with 57 kg in snatch and 72 kg in clean and jerk.
With eight gold medals in men, seven in women and nine in junior boys, altogether there are 24 gold medals up for the grab. There are 70 athletes, including 16 women, are participating in the tournament.
