With the support from CPN-UML, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala has been elected the country’s Prime Minister on Monday after 83 days of the Constituent Assembly elections.
The Legislature-Parliament elected him as the country’s executive head with a majority votes. He was the sole contestant in the premier race.
When the proposal to elect him as the prime minister was put on vote, it garnered 405 votes. As many as 148 lawmakers, from UCPN-Maoist, Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal and some fringe parties in the Maoist-led alliance, cast their votes against the proposal with an intent to stay in the opposition.
