Students to shut Kanchanpur academic institutes indefinitely

The various student unions, which were agitating against the loss of two answer sheets of grade XI board examinations from Baijanath Namuna Higher Secondary School in Mahendranagar a few days ago, have announced indefinite closure of all academic institutes in Kanchanpur from tomorrow.

Student leaders loyal to CPN-UML, UCPN-Maoist, CPN-Maoist and Rastriya Janamorcha, issuing a joint statement, announced indefinite closure of all institutes from May 30, in the district.

They have planned a torch rally for today evening in Mahendranagar, a two-hour transport strike tomorrow morning and forced closure of all academic institutes for indefinite period from tomorrow.

Earlier, the student activists had launched a protest after two answer sheets of Adarsha Higher Secondary School were lost on May 25. Though the students were present in the examinations, their answer sheets were lost. The agitating students had smeared soot on the face of the school principal and superintendent before they vandalised the physical infrastructure of the school.

Police had cracked down on the agitators and seven of them were arrested on the charge of being involved in assaulting the principal and vandalising the school’s property.

The students padlocked the office of the district education office and the exam centre on Wednesday. but the district education office was unlocked with the initiatives of the district police.
