Eleven student-organisations affiliated to various political parties have demanded a reduction in prices of petroleum products.
A meeting of the student’s unions, affiliated to ruling-coalition and opposition parties, held on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, decided that they will exert pressure to reduce prices of petroleum products according to international market prices, says Ashesh Ghimire, Publicity Department Head of All Nepal National Free Students Union.
After the meeting, the students submitted a memorandum to Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) stating that although petroleum prices have reduced by 45 per cent in the international market, it is objectionable that the prices have not reduced in Nepal; and that the price must be adjusted accordingly soon.
The petroleum product prices in Nepal have gone down by only ten percent.
NOC’s plan of establishing a new price every 15 days has not been implemented yet.
Likewise, eleven student-unions including Nepal Students Union, All Nepal National Free Students Union and All Nepal National Free Students Union (Revolutionary) have also decided against writing on walls and sticking posters at educational institutions and other public places.
They have also made a decision to clean the area of educational institutions they are affiliated to every first Friday of the month.
Similarly, the meeting has decided to submit a memorandum to university officials to conduct free students union’s election as soon as possible.
