Student killed, 28 others injured in road mishap

A student died and 28 others were injured in a road accident at Topgachhi section along the East-West Highway on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as a six-year-old Shailesh Baniya of Topgachhi-7, according to the District Traffic Police Office, Jhapa.

The accident took place when an over-speed bus (Me 1 Kha 916) heading towards Biratnagar from Kakadvitta hit the bicycle ridden by Baniya´s sister, Selina, when they were on the way to school.

The boy, student at the Dharma Bhakta Secondary School, died on the spot in the incident. Selina who was critically injured was referred to Biratnagar-based Neuro Hospital for further treatment.

Police said 27 other bus passengers were injured and among them the condition of Puna Khanal, 40, of Belbari, Morang, and Rajesh Shrestha, 35, of Shiva Satakshi Municipality was critical. Khanal and Shrestha have been sent to the Neuro Hospital and others were undergoing treatment in local hospitals.

Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased and locals have halted traffic along the East-West Highway from 10:00 am after the incident. RSS
