General life has been put off gear with transportation coming to a grinding halt in Jhapa district on Wednesday following a strike enforced by the Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N) against secularism.
Today’s strike come soon after the Tarai bandh called by the Madhesh-centric parties on Tuesday. So the two continuous days of strike called by different parties has severely hit public life.
The RPP-N has called the district-wide strike in protest against what it said police intervention on peaceful protest programme organized against the public opinion collection on the preliminary draft on Tuesday. The strike was also called in protest of recent suppression of RPP-N Chairman Kamal Thapa and CA member Ganesh Thapa by police, the party stated.
Security personnel have been deployed in a considerable number since the morning while untoward incidents have not taken place as of now.
The resumption of services at the government offices, which were closed since Sunday for three days of public holiday announced for public hearing on draft constitution, have also been affected due to the strike .
All passenger buses remain off the road while industries, businesses and schools are forced to close down.
Many travelers have been left stranded with today’s bandh announced all of a sudden. RSS
