Security forces deployed from Armed Police Force’s Chauri Security Base were involved in an exchange of fire with an armed group at Dhankauli VDC-3 in the Bijgauri-Taulihawa road section in Kapilbastu on Friday morning.
According to Chief District Officer (CDO) of Kapilbastu Binod Prakash Singh, two unidentified individuals riding on a red motorcycle opened fire on a patrol under the command Armed Police Inspector Bhimnidhi Khanal.
Singh says police personnel returned fire as perpetrators were attempting to flee. As the patrol was on foot and did not have any motorised vehicle within immediate reach, they were unable to follow the shooters who made their escape, according to Singh.
The security forces later found armed improvised explosives devices inside a sack left at the spot from where the shooters made their escape. They found two wired socket bombs, a home-made pistol and two rounds of bullets.
A Nepal Army bomb disposal unit defused the socket bombs.
Singh says that a search has been initiated for the shooters and checkpoints have been put on high alert.
Nepalnews has not received any reports of casualties.
