SC annuls writ petition against army deployment

The Supreme Court (SC) quashed a writ petition seeking a stay order against the army deployment in riot-hit areas.

A single bench of Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha on Friday said that the deployment was as per the existing rules and regulation of the country.
The apex court’s decision has given a legal authority for the government to deploy army in the riot-hit districts.

A writ petition filed at the SC seeking withdrawal of Nepal Army personnel from Kailali and some other “riot-hit” districts on Thursday.

Advocates Roshan Kumar Jha and Yam Kumar Yonjan filed the petition claiming deployment of Nepal Army personnel is against the constitution. They have argued that the army can be mobilized only through the decision of the National Security Council.
