‘Sauraha is safe’, say Tourism entrepreneurs

In a bid to promote tourism in the aftermath of the quake, the Regional Hotel Association, Chitwan is to offer 50 per cent discount to the tourists, both domestic and international, in the lodging.

A meeting of the Working Committee of the Association held today at Ratnagar made this decision with an objective to revive tourism in Sauraha, according to Rammani Khanal, General Secretary of the Association.

There are 100 hotels at Sauraha in Chitwan district which could accommodate some 2,500 persons on a daily basis.

The tourism industry was hit hard due to the April 25 quake. Sauraha almost wore deserted look following the disaster as all the tourists flocked back to their country, shared Rammani Khanal, General Secretary of the Association.

Khanal believed that the discount offer would help attract tourists to this tourist spot abuzz with tourists in the tourist seasons.

“The Association is introducing this package to spread the word that Sauraha was a safe place to visit. With the introduction of this package, we are extending invitations to the tourists,” argued General Secretary Khanal.

“The hotels here have seen the cancelation of the booking spanning from three months to five,” shared Sirlal Pariyar, Proprietor of Parkside Hotel at Sauraha.

Pariyar was of the opinion that it was imperative for the government and non-government organizations to disseminate the message that tourism in Nepal was safer.

Lately, Sauraha was receiving good number of tourists even in the off season. Prior to quake, tourists, mostly Chinese, were visiting in big numbers in Sauraha.

Elephant Safari in the National Park in Sauraha, Bird-watching and cultural studies have been the among the popular tourists activities in Sauraha. RSS
