The regional convention of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) on infrastructure for economic development is set to kick off in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Organising a press conference in the Capital on Sunday , the Diploma Engineer’s Association Nepal (DEAN) said that the convention organised by the DEAN and SAARC Engineer’s Forum will be held from October 8 to 10. Around 500 delegates including foreigners and nationals are expected to take part in the event.
Chairman of the DEAN Kameshwor Prasad Singh, said that discussions in the convention would be focused on importance of infrastructures for economic development and efforts of SAARC nations to upgrade their standards.
He added that discussions on reconstruction of structures ravaged by April 25 earthquake and rehabilitation of the quake survivors would also be held along with discussions on issues like participation of women in engineering stream, its infrastructure structures and employment of engineers.
Bindiya Karki, General Secretary of the DEAN said that the Society of Engineers for Rural Development Nepal and various organisations affiliated with infrastructure-sector among others will fund the convention. rss
