Rs 5,100 to be fined for defecating in the open

BIRGUNJ (Parsa): In a bid to declaring the entire area free from open defecation, the Tulasiwarba VDC of Parsa District has decided to impose a fine of Rs 5,100 for one time on anyone found defecating in the open.

The VDC decision comes in the wake of some people still defecating in the open despite the dedicated efforts by some people to make their area open defecation free since long.

An all-party meeting held at the VDC recently decided to this effect, according to the VDC Secretary Paras Prasad Kurmi.

There are 745 households in the Tulasiwarba VDC and all of them have constructed a toilet at their houses. But as they say old habits die hard, it is found that some people are attending to the call of nature in the open prompting the VDC to take this decision, he added. Preparations are being made to declare the VDC as ´Open Defecation-Free VDC´ on February 13. Out of the 66 VDCs in the district, only four have declared themselves as open defecation-free VDC. RSS
