Pyuthan remains shut for second day

Nepali Congress youth wing Tarun Dal has enforced shutdown in Pyuthan district for the second consecutive day on Tuesday. The general strike imposed by the sister wing of key ruling party has crippled normal life in the district.

They enforced the shutdown beginning Monday demanding the arrest of culprits involved in the attack of their cadres on Sunday evening.

Vehicular movements have come to a grinding halt and shops have remained closed for the second day. The local leaders and cadres of Tarun Dal took to the streets to enforce the strike at major parts of the district.

According to Pyuthan district chairman of Tarun Dal , Madhav Bhandari, a gang of youth allegedly attacked party member Sanat Kumar Shrestha, a resident of Bijuwar-6, with Khukuri. The assaulters invited Shrestha to a location expressing their desire to take the party membership and attacked him with Khukuri. The indefinite shutdown has been called to press for the arrest of the culprits involved in the crime, he added.

Tarun Dal has blamed CPN-UML-aligned Youth Association members led by Deepak Sapkota of Ramdi-1 for the attack. But Pyuthan chairman of Youth Association, Mohammad Halim, has denied the party’s involvement in the attack. He claimed through a press release that Sapkota is not even general member of the party.

Shrestha, who has sustained serious injuries in the attack, has been taken to Kathmandu for treatment. Pyuthan police informed that they have been searching for the culprits

Talks inconclusive

Talks held at Bijuwar on Monday evening in an attempt to end the strike ended inconclusively, Chief District Officer Ram Bahadur Kurumbang said.

Meanwhile, NC district committee, Pyuthan , issued a press statement on Tuesday expressing NC’s support to Tarun Dal with their protest activities.
