Protester dies during banda rally in Janakpur

A protester has died during the banda enforced by the UCPN (Maoist)-led 30-party alliance here in the district on Monday.

Rajaram Jha, 26, of Ekriya of Mohattari district died near Bharmarpura Chowk as he fell on the ground suddenly during a rally held in a bid to enforce the Janakpur bazar banda today.

Doctors at Janakpur Zonal Hospital, pronounce Jha dead as soon as he was taken to hospital via a police vehicle.

Police have suspected that Jha might have been died due to heart attack.

“The actual cause behind Jha’s death would be revealed only after postmortem,” said Krishna Dev Das, a doctor at the hospital.

The agitators, however, have claimed that Jha died due to police beating.

The deceased Jha is said to be a UCPN (Maoist) cadre and a rickshaw driver by profession.

Following the death of Jha, agitators have called an indefinite Dhanusha banda to protest the death.
