SOLUKHUMBU: Electricity supply has resumed in Namche and Khumjung, the gate to world’s highest peak, after four months of power disruption.
The regular power supply has resumed from Saturday after the Thame Hydropower Project that was closed since May 28 citing maintenance, began operation, said manager of Khumju Hydropower Company Sonam Gyaljen Sherpa.
As high as 800 households in 13 VDCs in the district would be benefitted after the power supply.
However, the task of the hydel’s capacity enhancement could not be carried out due to delay in equipments supply.
With regular supply of power, the folks now have an easy access to telephone services, drinking water supply and internet including other facilities.
The hydropower project with the capacity of 630 KW was developed 13 years ago with the financial assistance of Rs 180 million from Austrian government.
