Police have arrested the arsonists who torched a Modern Indian School bus on its way to ferry students at Kirtipur on July 22.
The arrestees have been identified as Khadga Bahadur KC, 23 of Rukum and Naresh Thakuri, 30 of Dhadging.
A team of police from Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Teku arrested KC and Thakuri, who are also the cadres of All Nepal National Free Student Union (Revolutionary) close to the Netra Birkram Chand-led CPN Maoist, from Bhrikutimandap on Monday evening.
The duo had sprinkled petrol on the bus (Na 1 Ka 1023) and torched it in front of Laboratory School at Balkhu-Dakshinkali road stretch at around 6:15 am. No casualty was reported as the bus was empty when it was torched. The front windshield and seats of the bus were damaged due to the fire .
Right after the incident, the union had claimed that the attack was a part of its protests against schools that were running with foreign affiliation in Nepal. It has also accused the school of using Indian textbooks with “misleading” information that “Mt Kanchanjangha is in India”, exploiting teachers and not getting registered with any government agencies in Nepal.
SSP Sarvendra Khanal, chief of Crime Division said they have been sent to Metropolitan Police Circle, Kirtipur for further investigation.
