Preparations are underway to open Thamel, a major touristic destination in Kathmandu, round the clock on Valentine’s Day.
Chairman of Thamel Tourism Development Council Ram Sharan Thapaliya said that the council has sought approval from District Administration Office, Kathmandu to that end.
“Although the council has not planned a formal program on the occasion, the entrepreneurs here will make sure that youths will make the day special,” he said, “We are seeking approval for opening two hours more that the existing hours.”
Currently, hotels, bars and discos remain open till 2 am, while other businesses are closed at 12 noon.
There were preparations to open Thamel round the clock from English New Year. The District Administration Office canceled the permit following pressure from locals and woman rights activists.
