Phewa cleaning campaign begins in Pokhara

Phewa cleaning campaign has started yesterday by the Western Regional Administration Office and Pokhara Sub-Metropolitan City in Pokhara.

Regional Administrator Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said the campaign will be a milestone in the cleaning of Phewa Lake.

“Phewa Lake has been a pride of the world. It is our responsibility to protect it from being disfigured.” Thapaliya said.

As many as 500 security personnel have been deployed at various 13 points of the lake in the campaign.

On Saturday only, more than 500 trucks of hyasinth have been extracted from the lake by a team of security personnel, said Ramji Koirala, Section Officer at the Administration Office.

The first stage of the cleaning campaign has been successfully accomplished with an assisatance of Nepal Army and Nepal Police today. The campaign will continue after Tihar festival, according to the Office.
