Pepsicola-Thimi road stretch tense after woman dies in road accident

The Pepsicola-Thimi road stretch remained obstructed the whole day on Tuesday after demonstration from the relatives of a woman who died after a car allegedly with a drunken driver at the helm rammed a motorbike at around mid night.

The speeding car (Ba 9 Cha 6564) driven by Aditya Agrawal and accompanied by two of his friends was returning to Maharajgunj after a circuit of Sallaghari area when it went out of control and rammed a motorbike in which Devaki Thapa had been a pillion rider at 1:30 am in the Bode area of Madhyapur Thimi, police said.

According to police, Agrawal had got drunk at Thamel in Kathmandu before heading towards Bhaktapur for a trip.

The rider of the ill-fated bike Jiban Thapa, 45, is undergoing treatment at Madhyapur Hospital, according to Metropolitan Police Range Office, Thimi.

The relatives of the deceased demonstrated demanding stern action against Agrawal by burning tyres along the Pepsicola and Sanothimi road stretch and in front of the Police Range Office, Thimi.

Devaki was visiting her parental house with her husband after receiving notice that her father was seriously ill. The victim´s father has also died further fuelling the anger among the residents of Bode Thapa tole.

The relatives of the deceased have demanded trying Agrawal on murder case. They have warned of launching an agitation against the police force if the latter attempts to try Agrawal under a lesser offence.

Agrawal reportedly had his driving license punctured four times for drunken driving.

DSP at the Police Range Office, Bhimkiran Bogati said the demonstrations stopped after agreement between the two sides. He added that the police would launch an investigation and initiate legal action after the victim´s family files a FIR on Wednesday. RSS
