NT’s emergency, inquiry services halted

Services of Nepal Telecom for emergency information, repair and inquiry have been closed.

Employees of Cybernetics, the outsourcing company of the state-owned telecom operator, closed services since 1:30 pm on Monday stating that the company’s office located in China Town Complex is unsafe.

Inquiry number 197, repair 198 and 1498 and emergency number 1234 are out of service.

The April 25 earthquake and subsequent aftershocks had damaged pillars and beams of the building.

Employees didn’t join duties after the China Town Business Association asked renters to leave the building for repair.

“Although being aware that the building is unsafe, we were requested to work here till the office shifts,” an employee preferring anonymity told Myrepublica.

Director of Cybernetics Niranjan Khanal said that only two out of 108 pillars of the building have been damaged. He said that the association asked to be alert and there is no such situation to be afraid.

“It an emergency service and should not be halted. We called employees as we have failed to find new place to relocate.”

Some 250 employees are associated with Cybernetics.

China Town Business Association on Monday published notice to close the complex for repair works.
