Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Wednesday confirmed that Nepal will play a 50-over match and three Twenty20 Internationals against Hong Kong during the 22-day Sri Lanka tour in November.
According to ACC, the tour was confirmed after Sri Lanka Cricket´s Executive Committee approved tours by the top four Asian Associates — Afghanistan, Hong Kong Nepal and the UAE — to the island nation.
Nepal will also play four three-dayers against Sri Lanka´s representative sides during the tour.
Regarding the tour, Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) acting general secretary Uttam Karmacharya, had informed that the men´s national cricket team will tour Sri Lanka for 22 days beginning from November 7 to 29 before the ACC Championship, scheduled to be held from December 7 to 14. The Championship to be held in two-day format consists of top four teams of the ACC Premier League — Afghanistan, UAE, Nepal and Oman — held in last May in Malaysia.
CAN further clarified that the tour shall be is funded by Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
Karmacharya had also informed that Nepal will play matches against Sri Lanka A team, District level team and with a club.
As per the ACC, Sri Lanka Cricket´s Executive Committee approved the tour following request from its Development Manager Bandula Warnapura to support the region´s Non-Test playing countries. The first ACC touring teams to Sri Lanka will be Hong Kong and Nepal in November.
“It´s a very beneficial offer by Sri Lanka,” Warnapura was quoted as saying by ACC. “Not only can our teams play high-level cricket, they will be exposed to facilities and a cricket culture that will help to develop their abilities in preparation for global events.”
According to ACC, the majority of the Hong Kong squad will be arriving from Brisbane where they will be undergoing warm-weather training.
Nepal´s coach Pubudu Dassanayake said: “We need such tours as we are playing important tournaments in future. I am glad that SLC provided such opportunity.”
The teams will be based at Kurunegala and Dambulla for their matches. Hong Kong and Nepal will not need to play the ACC Twenty20 in 2015 as their T20I status following the last World Twenty20 has already placed them in the ICC WorldTwenty20 Qualifier to be held in Ireland next year.
