Nepal Telecom (NT) headquarters in Bhadrakali, Kathmandu , witnessed vandalism on Wednesday.
A section of NT employees are holding protests against the appointment of Buddhi Prasad Acharya, who has a non-technical background, as managing director of the state-run company three weeks ago.
The agitators have accused the NT management of sponsoring the vandalism, while the management said the agitating employees were responsible for the incident, in which the office’s windows and chairs were damaged. “Those assigned by the administration staged vandalism when we were protesting peacefully,” said Dinesh Chandra Panthi, coordinator of a struggle committee. “Five persons, including two drivers, were injured in the incident.”
So far NT managing directors have had technical background, but there is no legal provision that bars anybody with non-technical background to be appointed to the post. Acharya said it was not a “big incident”. “A small incident took place due to animosity between employees themselves,” he said.
