Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday claimed that news reports that said Chinese President Xi Jinping postponed his purported Nepal visit were false.
Some national and international media had published reports claiming Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Wu Chuntai had already informed Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi among other high Nepali officials about the decision to put off the visit.
They had cited that the visit was postponed as Nepal lacked preparations for the top-level visit on its part.
However, issuing a statement today, the Ministry said the reports lacked truthfulness.
Earlier, talking to THT Online, Foreign Affairs Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat had said he did not have any information about the postponement.
Xi is scheduled to attend a BRICS Summit along with the heads of state/government of Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa, on October 15-16 in New Delhi. It has been reported that the Nepal government is planning to welcome Xi Jinping around the same time.
