Nepal Police transfers 37 SSPs

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police (NP) transferred 37 Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs).

According to SP Rabindra Nath Regmi of Staff Administration Section of NP Headquarters, a ministerial level meeting on Sunday decided to transfer the police officials.

Ramesh Kharel, who had earned popularity at Metropolitan Police Range (MPR), Kathmandu has been transferred to Mid-Regional Police Training Centre, Bharatpur, Chitwan.

Uttam Raj Karki has been made the chief of MPR Kathmandu. Kaki was deployed at the MPR after Khanal came into controversy regarding his claim that higher police officials are involved in corruption for promotion, in May this year.

SSP Kharel at a function in the capital on May 24 had allegedly made public remarks that DIGs aspiring to become AIGs rush to visit ministers with cash-laden briefcases to secure their promotion.

Home Minister Bamdev Gautam had tried to transfer Kharel from MPR back then. Since the Election Commission did not approve the transfer request citing the code of conduct for Constituent Assembly (CA) by-elections held on June 22, he was summoned at the Police Headquarters and some weeks later, Karki was assigned the MPR leadership.

Earlier, Karki was deputy chief of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB).
