Nepali men’s badminton team on Saturday advanced to the quarter-finals in men’s team event in the ongoing 17th Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea that kicked off on Friday.
Nepal made a winning start with 3-0 victory in men’s badminton team event.
Nepal’s No. 1 Ratna Jit Tamang registered 21-12, 21-16 win while Bikash Shrestha recorded 21-11, 21-16 win and Sajan Krishna Tamrakar won 12-21, 21-4, 21-18 against Macao’s opponents, respectively.
Nepali women’s badminton team however lost against Malaysia 3-0 in the team event.
Similarly, Nepali women’s tennis team also lost to Taipei 3-0 while in women’s singles, twin sisters Mayangka Rana and Mahika Rana lost 6-0 6-0 6-1 to their opponents.
In the same event under doubles category, Bibhuti Karki and Bijesha Shrestha lost 6-0 6-0 against Japanese opponents. The men’s tournament is scheduled for Sunday.
Nepal also lost in Sepak Takraw’s doubles category in the preliminary round. This is the first ever participation of Sepak Takraw’s team in the Asiad.
Anil Gurung and Aman Pode pair lost against Singapore duo 21-14, 21-7 in the first round match and Anil and Rupesh Pode lost to Japanese duo 21-6, 21-6 in the second round match.
