Nepal on Sunday defeated the tournament favourite Netherlands by two wickets in their second match of ICC World Cricket League Division 2 played in Windhoek, Namibia on Sunday.
After losing the toss and being sent to bowl, Nepali bowlers bundled out the Dutch batsmen for 158 with a ball to spare. But the Nepali batsmen achieved the target with three balls remaining despite the loss of early two wickets in second over.
Binod Bhandari top scored 35 runs including three sixes and one four off 30 balls, while Sompal Kami and Sharad Vesawkar scored 24 each.
Three ‘fours’ by the Sompal Kami at the crucial time of Nepal’s inning gave mileage to the Nepali team. He made 24 runs off 28 balls before finally being caught out in the first ball of 48th over.
Shakti Gauchan and Sharad Vesawkar were the last man standing from Nepali side.
Naresh Budayair scored one run and Gyanendra Malla made no runs before getting caught out in 2.3 and 2.4 overs respectively. Skipper Paras Khadka made 19 runs off 57 balls.
Earlier, Nepali skipper Paras Khadka claimed two wickets in two overs to reduce the Dutch side to 43 for 4 after 15 overs. Likewise, Sompal Kami, Shakti Gauchan and Basanta Regmi took two wickets each, while Regmi set a record of 100 wickets in the World Cricket League Division.
Dutch batsman Michael Rippon top scored 53 runs off 117 balls with two boundries.
With the win, Nepal has secured 2 points in ICC WCL Division 2.
