NATO requests KMC not to increase entrance fee

Nepal Association of Tour Operators (NATO) has requested Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) not to enforce the decision to increase entrance fee of Kathmandu Durbar Square. “NATO is shocked to learn that KMC Office is increasing the amount of tourist entrance fee of Kathmandu Durbar Square from Rs 750 to Rs 1,000, as it will directly affect tour operators,” NATO said, issuing a press statement.

As the tour packages that have been quoted for the years 2015 and 2016 include the previous entrance fee, tourists will not be liable to pay the additional amount and this must be borne by the tour operators, said the statement.

“This type of unexpected increase in entrance fees will adversely impact the tourism sector which is slowly bouncing back after the earthquake,” NATO said, adding, “We urge KMC to hold consultations with the concerned stakeholders before revising the entrance fee structure.”
