Sanitation staff of the Manipal Hospital here have shut down the hospital indefinitely, putting forth eight-point demand including proper security facility.
“We were compelled to close down the hospital after sanitation staff halted their work,” the human resource department Chief Birendra Yadav said. There are 132 sanitation staff in the hospital.
“Ponging smell emanating from the toilets is already unbearable for us, and then there is pile of garbage in addition,” he said.
He said that the staff have halted their work from June 15 and the daily work in the hospital has been affected since then.
More than 800 patients visit the hospital on daily basis.
The demands include proper sanitation materials, proper dresses and increment in salary among others.
According to Raj Kumar Gayak, who is leading the agitation, they would intensify their protest if the concerned authorities did not address their demands.
