A section of Madhesis living in the U.S. have demanded the release of treason-accused CK Raut from police custody.
Demonstrating in front of UN General Assembly in New York with a banner, they have urged the government to ensure the freedom of expression, says Ram Manohar Sah, one of the demonstrators.
Likewise, an application has been filed at the UN’s Geneva office in Switzerland demanding release of Raut. Advocate Dipendra Jha of Terai Human Rights Network filed the application.
Association of Nepali Teraian in America (ANTA) also released a statement a few days ago demanding release of Raut.
Nepal Police arrested Raut in Rangeli, Morang on Saturday evening, 13 September and confirmed his arrest on Sunday, 14 September.
Raut has been alleged of misleading youths through his secessionist and provocative training sessions, publicity and speeches that amount to treason, according to Nepal law.
Raut’s case is currently undergoing at Nepal’s Supreme Court.
