The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has leveled the public land in Tinkune to build a temporary park.
KMC Spokesperson Gyanendra Karki said this was part of the initiative to increase greenery in Kathmandu. “After leveling the land, we plan to plant Bermuda grass and build walking tracks. People can go to the park for morning walk and also to spend free time,” he said. He said a huge national flag would be erected in the middle of the park.
KMC expects to complete construction of the park within a month. Work on building the park began after appointment of Eshor Raj Poudel as the new KMC chief.
Earlier, former KMC chief Rudra Singh Tamang had proposed to build a permanent park in the area with a huge statue of Buddha in the middle.
KMC Chief Poudel had also proposed to buy 10 road broomers to clean Kathmandu’s dusty roads. As per the plan, KMC would deploy staffers in three shifts from 7:00am to 10:00pm to clean the roads.
KMC is also planning to appoint Byakul Maila, the writer of national anthem, as development ambassador.
