Devyani International Nepal, the operator of popular KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants in the Capital, has shut down all of its four restaurants here due to the protest of labourers for their illogical demands.
Devyani was operating two restaurants at Durbarmarg and two others at BlueBird Mall in Tripureshwor. The four outlets that provide employment to 155 individuals are now shut down for an indefinite period as one of its team members was injured during an attack by the labour union members.
Issuing a press statement, today, the company said the union leaders manhandled the team members and senior management team of KFC and Pizza Hut on May 11, accusing them of violating the rules set by the unions.
“The unions had set the rules to work only till 6:00pm and team members of KFC and Pizza Hut at Durbarmarg were manhandled and threatened by union leaders for violating the rules,” the statement said, adding, “They also vandalised the restaurant in front of customers and protested there.”
Following the incident, the management decided to close the restaurants for an indefinite time, as per the statement.
This is not the first time that KFC and Pizza Hut outlets have been shut. The labour unions of the two eateries have forced them to close shop earlier also citing various disputes.
