Nepali karate team, which is set to participate in the 17th Asian Games in South Korea, left for Tokyo, Japan on Thursday for a 10-day training.
Although the games are starting Friday, Karate fixtures will take place on October 2, 3 and 4. The 11-member team consists of male players Bijay Lama (55kg), Mukundra Maharjan (67 kg), Bibas Shrestha (75 kg), and Parshuram Bastola (singles kata). Likewise, Anu Adhikari (50 kg), Mallika Thapa (55 kg), Ganga Devi Adhikari (above 68 kg), and Chanchala Dunwar (singles kata) are the female players. Aakbar Shah and Deepak Shrestha are the coaches and Hari Sharan KC, the general secretary of Nepal Karate Federation (NKF) will lead the team in the Asian Games. Likewise, Om Krishna Prasain will accompany the team as manager in Japan. The team will also be accompanied in Japan by coaches Gangaram Maharjan and Chhori Dangol.
