India agrees to repair Gandak power house

Indian government has agreed to repair the Gandak power house closed for the past four months in Nawalparasi district.

India will repair the power house as per the agreement between officials of Nepal and India, the power house said.

Paper works have been forwarded for the repair of the Gandak power house and works will start soon, it said.

The only power house in Nawalparasi has been closed for the past four months as all the three turbines were dysfunctional. The power house has a 15-megawatt capacity.

The Gandak Hydro Electricity Power Station was handed over to Nepal by the Indian government after building it at Guthisuryapura, at the border as per the agreement between the two countries in 2036 BS.

Industrialists of the district were hard hit from the closure.

Locals have demanded that the royalty from the power house should be spent in development of the area.
