Uganda defeated Nepal by 20 runs in the opening match of ICC WCL Division 3 held at Kinrara Oval, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Thursday.
Uganda bowled Nepal out in 48.5 overs, restricting it to paltry 183 runs. For Uganda, DK Arinaitwe grabbed 4 wickets, giving away 33 runs in 10 overs, while RG Mukasa picked 3 wickets giving away 28 runs. Similarly, J Sebanja snatched away 2 wickets, giving away 28 runs in 8.5 overs and skipper F Nsubuga bagged 1 wicket, giving away 24 runs in 10 overs.
Sent in to bat after losing the toss, Uganda had notched up 203 runs at the cost of 8 wickets in the allotted 50 overs in its first inning. Ugandan player M Mukobe had scored highest 84 runs including 6 fours and 3 sixes off 102 balls before he was caught out by Gyanendra Malla. Likewise, B Masaba had contributed 51 runs including 5 fours off 81 balls while J Sebanja collected 20 runs off 18 balls.
Earlier, winning the toss and electing to field first, Nepal’s skipper Paras Khadka took 3 wickets in 10 overs with 3 maidens giving away 34 runs and Basanta Regmi grabbed 3 wickets in 10 overs, giving away 32 runs, keeping the opponent under pressure.
Similarly, fast bowler Sompal Kami grabbed 2 wickets in 10 overs, giving away 29 runs while Sagar Pun snatched away 1 wicket in 7 overs, giving away 42 runs.
However, Nepal coming toward the end of the first inning had proved expensive as Uganda easily scored 203 runs in allotted 50 overs, losing 8 wickets.
There are six teams – Nepal, Uganda, USA, Singapore, host Malaysia and Bermuda – taking on with each other in round robin format in the ongoing ICC WCL Division 3.
The top two teams will be promoted to the ICC WCL Division 2, which will be held in Namibia from January 17 to 24 2015.
Nepal will take on Bermuda at Selangor Turf Club in Malaysia tomorrow.
