ICC staff withdraw strike‚ CA meet to begin

Meanwhile, the talks held between representatives of protesting staff and CA Secretariat ended with an agreement to make a final decision over their demands within next three days.

Following the agreement, the agitating staff have withdrawn the protests.

The CA meeting, scheduled for 1 pm today, is soon to begin after the staff lifted the strike.

Protesting staff padlock CA meeting hall

KATHMANDU: Agitating employees of the International Convention Centre (ICC) have padlocked the Constituent Assembly (CA) meeting hall.

Due to the strike, the CA meeting scheduled for 1 pm today has not started yet.

Sources said representatives of the protesting staff are holding talks with the CA Secretariat to resolve the issue in Singha Durbar.

The ICC employees have demanded that the CA Secretariat provide them benefits equal to those of CA and Parliament staff.

In particular, they have sought 80 per cent increment in regular allowance, and additional allowance for food.

Top leaders had reached New Baneshwor-based hall to attend the meeting. As the issue could not get resolved for an hour, some of them returned whereas many lawmakers are killing their time gossiping at CA hall premises.

CA and Parliament meetings are being held at ICC after the first CA elections in 2008.
