House seeks govt reply on police suppression of Dalit protest

The Legislature-Parliament has directed the government to come up with reply on the police atrocities during a protest staged by Dalit lawmakers at Bijuli Bazaar, Kathmandu.

House Speaker Subas Nembang made such ruling at the parliament on Tuesday after lawmakers from various political parties criticised the excessive use of force by police against the peaceful protest staged by various Dalit lawmakers and activists demanding Dalit-friendly constitution.

The lawmakers condemned the police administration for the suppression of right to organise peaceful protests in democracy.

Around two dozen activists and Dalit leaders were injured in a clash during a demonstration at Bijulibazaar, Kathmandu. They were demanding Dalit friendly provisions in the new constitution.
