The government on Thursday formed a national reconstruction fund for the reconstruction of the physical infrastructures that collapsed as the result of Saturday’s deadly earthquake.
The Cabinet meeting has allocated Rs 20 billion for the fund and aims to collect Rs 2 trillion for the same.
The fund will be used for the resettlement of the people rendered homeless by the disaster with the construction of low cost houses, reconstruct the demolished government buildings and other construction works.
The meeting also announced to provide a cash relief Rs 140,000 to each of the families of those killed in the earthquake for the funeral and expenses. The government has decided to provide Rs 25,000 to each of the families who are capable enough to reconstruct their houses with minor repair.
Likewise, the Cabinet has formed a Prime Minister headed high level monitoring and assistance coordination committee comprising top leaders of the major political parties.
