Direct bus service has commenced from Gamgadhi, the headquarters of Mugu district to Nepalgunj.
The service has been operated by the Rara Chhayanath Transport Pvt Ltd based in Mugu. The two buses carrying 62 passengers which had left Nepalgunj of Banke district as part of the direct service reached Gamgadhi on Saturday.
Central member of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Narabir Rawat inaugurated the direct bus service.
This mountainous district was connected by motor road four years back but direct passenger bus service was not available. People were travelling on goods-carrying vehicles at great risk.
The bus fare from Mugu to Nepalgunj is Rs 2,200 per person.
Lack of bus service before this meant that people either had to travel by air paying Rs 5,000 from the local Rara Airport or to make risky journey on goods trucks.
The direct bus service is expected to ease travel and boost tourism in the district as tourists, both domestic and foreign, can now directly take buses to Mugu.
The famous Rara National Park and Chhayanath, a pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists lie Mugu.
