Former Minister for Home Affairs and Foreign Minister Madhav Prasad Ghimire and two others have gone missing after his car plunged into Trishuli River on Sunday. Three persons* were killed in the mishap.
Police said that Ghimire’s mother Chaitanya Kumari, Sub Inspector Ram Chandra Karki and Narayan Prasad Kafle were killed in the mishap, adding that former Minister Ghimire, Mohan Ghimire and Prakash Ghimire are still missing.
According to Mugling Police, the car, Ba 9 Cha 1531, plunged into Trishuli River at Darechok-3, Ghoptebhir in Chitwan district at around 4:45 pm.
Some seven persons were travelling in the car. They were returning to Kathmandu from Muktinath.
Chief District Officer of Chitwan, Binod Prakash Singh told Republica Online that former minister Ghimire was himself driving the car.
“According to the driver of the ex-minister, Ghimire was at the steering,” he said.
Driver Bishnu Rai is undergoing treatment at Bharatpur Hospital, it is learnt.
Ghimire is also a former Chief Secretary.
