Police arrested two persons with possession of two kg gold from Lokanthali of Bhaktapur on Sunday evening.
Acting on a tip-off, the Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) arrested Indra Kumar Shrestha (28) from Dhuskun-9 and Chhiring Tamang (39) from Tatopani-2 of Sindhupalchok district from a Bolero jeep at around 7:30 pm yesterday.
According to MPCD, Shrestha, who was on the last seat of the jeep (Na 2 Cha 4135) had hidden the precious yellow metal inside his shoes.
Police said the duo were handed over to Pulchok-based Department of Revenue Investigation for further action.
Shrestha was smuggling gold from Khasa of Tibet to Kathmandu, police claimed.
Shrestha told police that he was smuggling the yellow metal for a Chinese citizen, who had assured him to pay Rs 40,000 for the illegal act, according to police.
He owns a photo studio in Tatopani, according to police.
Meanwhile, police also confiscated three ATM cards, cheques of Rs 50,000 value, four mobile phones and a mobile charger from them.
The vehicle used by the accused is also seized.
