Drug smuggling‚ burglary racket busted

Police have busted a drug smuggling racket, also involved in executing day-time theft and robbery at houses in various areas of the Capital.

The Metropolitan Police Crime Investigation Division (MPCID) nabbed eight persons involved in the racket from KMC-9 on Wednesday.

The arrestees have been identified as Prem Tamang (22), Karna bahadur Tamang (20), Manish Shrestha (18), Bishal Lama (22), Gyalbo lama (20), Basanta Tamang (19), Hem Badahur Tamang (18) from Nawalpur and Bel Bahadur Nakarmi (25) from Badegaun of Sindhupalchowk district.

According to police, they were arrested with possession of 92.29 grams of brown sugar, nine mobile phone sets, Rs 33,100 in cash, wrist watches, two rods, currencies of Bangladesh, China, Bhutan, US. Singapore, Malaysia, among others.

Likewise, police also confiscated five stolen motorcycles, and a cache of gold and sliver jewelries.

Police’s preliminary investigation revealed that the gang has conducted burglaries at 14 different places. The arrestees are also drug abusers and had been smuggling brown sugar for quite some time. 

Investigation is underaway, police said.
