Nepal ’s U-17 World Cup dream came crumbling down after a 4-1 defeat by DPR Korea in the AFC U-16 Championship played at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok. With the win, DPR Korea has advanced to the Quarterfinals.
DPR Korea took full advantage of poor Nepal i defense line when they opened their account in just four minutes through Hyon Hyok’s header. The lead was doubled after 23 minutes when Song Hyok scored a second for the Koreans. Nepal pulled a goal back through Ananta Tamang’s header in the 26th minute but the celebrations were short-lived as DPR Korea scored their third a minute later. Song Hyok scored his second in the additional time of first half to put his side 4-1 in the first half.
The Korean team maintained the lead throughout the second half as Nepal tried to find the back of the net through several corner kicks and long range shots. Nepal i attack could not pierce through the strong Korean defence and convert the opportunities into goal throughout the 90 minutes.
Nepal needed just a draw to secure their berths in the quarter-finals while DPR Korea had to win this match to stay in the tournament.
Nepal , who opened the tournament with a valiant 1-1 draw against Uzbekistan, beat Kuwait 2-1 on Tuesday. The Koreans had opened their campaign with a crushing 3-0 victory over Kuwait before going down 3-2 against defending champions Uzbekistan.
The leader of Group C will be determined after the game between Uzbekistan and Kuwait, which is scheduled for later today.
