Double banda affects normal life in western Nepal

Normal life has been affected due to the double banda or general shutdown in the West.

The UCPN (Maoist)-led 30-party alliance called for a banda in the Magarat, Tamuwan, Kirant, Khumbuwan, and Limbuwan states to exert pressure to promulgate the new constitution forging political consensus, said UCPN (Maoist) leader Navraj Subedi.

The 30-party alliance called banda after the ruling parties Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML presented themselves in an arrogant manner boasting of two-thirds majority in the Constituent Assembly (CA), Subedi added.

Similarly, the CPN-Maoist led by Mohan Baiddya has also called two-day strike in the west including Dang, Pyuthan, and Rolpa districts.

The band organized by the parties affected normal life in the district. Educational institutions, transport services, and local industrial activities have been fully affected by the strike.

Examinations of Grade 11 under the Higher School Education Board (HSEB) in some places of the districts have also been disturbed by the banda called by the alliance.

Meanwhile, hundreds of travelers have been stranded in Sallibazaar of Salyan as a result of the strike called by the CPN-Maoist.

They arrived in Salyan from Dolpa on their way to Kathmandu and other destinations. However, they were forced to stay back at Salyan as there were no vehicles leaving for Nepalgunj, according to Harinanda Kark, one of the travelers.

Many of the travelers had walked to Salleri after the only airport in Dolpa—Jufal airport remained closed for 15 days. RSS
