The government authority has initiated the construction of a diversion to the south of the Jayashree bridge at Gaindakot of Nawalparasi district, after the bridge broke down on Monday evening due to heavy load.
The construction works were started 14 hours after the incident, said Chief Engineer at the Western Regional Road Division Office, Butwal, Deepak Kumar Bhattarai.
Thousands of passengers were compelled to spend the night on the road in Nawalaparasi due to this, whereas some people are heading towards their destinations by foot.
Bhattarai said, “One-way transport service will resume from this evening.”
According to the District Police Office, Nawalparasi, vehicles heading towards west are stationed at Gaindakot and vehicles heading towards east are stationed at Thumsi, Kawasoti, Chormara and Bardaghat. Locals said that the bridge bent after a tipper and a truck tried to cross the bridge at the same time.
A Bailey bridge will be constructed there as there was possibility of the diversion being swept away by flood any time with the occurrence of heavy rain. Bhattarai further said the Bailey bridge should be constructed as it would take more time for the repair and maintenance of the broken bridge.
He said, “The Bailey bridge will be constructed within 10 days in order to facilitate the vehicular movement.”
