Differently-abled people picket DAOs across country

The differently-abled people have on Monday picketed the District Administration Offices across the country demanding ensuring the political rights of the disabled in the new constitution.

They organized a sit-in in front of the official residence of the Prime Minister at Baluwatar from 9:00 am to 11:00 am and also picketed district administration offices of 74 districts at the same time.

Chairman of the National Federation of the Disabled, Nepal, Sudarshan Subedi, said that they would also picket the district administration offices across the country on Tuesday, saying they would launch phase-wise agitation until their demands are addressed.

He said, “We want political rights in the new constitution as it was compulsion to establish rights of three million disabled people.” The word ‘disabled’ is missing in Article 47 of the new constitution.”

Subedi also stressed the need of correction to the draft constitution as the word “disability” is missing for inclusive representation in the lower and the upper house of parliament, the federal assembly and the village assembly.

He said, “We will be compelled to launch stern agitation if our demands are not addressed.” RSS
